Inspired by Sangam Poetry

by Gizelle Rodrigues

Sangam Poetry (Akam Style)

What she said…

I waited for you

Years slipped by

Did you not feel my heart ache for you?

Shores where we watched the sun set together

And felt the waves break upon us

It only brought with it longing for another day united.

Now I stand on these shores

Each wave that comes crashing in

Reminds me of what could never be…

The setting sun breaks my spirit

Another day gone by waiting.

Sangam Poetry (Puram Style)

O, merciful king you are

To grant me a place in your assembly

Your valuable time, listening ears…

with abated breath you grant me your presence

‘Just’ you are, awarding the bearer of the the pen

praise to bring forth from the depths of my heart

yet bread to feed the hunger of my body.
